The first step in starting a business in Bahrain is to review the eligibility criteria for practicing a business activity. The Kingdom of Bahrain categorizes business activities into the following seven classifications:

100% Foreign Ownership Allowed
100% Ownership Allowed for GCC Nationals
100% Ownership Allowed for Americans
100% Ownership Allowed for Singaporeans
100% Ownership Allowed for Nationals of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland
Foreign Ownership Restricted to 49% or Less
Foreign Ownership Allowed with a Mandatory Bahraini Shareholder

Step #2: Pick a Distinct Name for Your Company:

The second step in starting a business is selecting a unique and appropriate name. According to “Law No. (18) of 2012 Regarding Trade Names,” the following rules must be observed when choosing a business name:
Allowed Options
A person’s whole name may be used in the name.
The name may contain a person’s name.
The name can be creative or innovative.
The name may describe the business activity.

Prohibited Restrictions
The name cannot consist of only common words, such as “Hospital,” “School,” or “Mechanical Workshop.”
The name must not conflict with the intended business activities.
The name cannot duplicate the name of an internationally recognized company.

The third step in starting a business is selecting a suitable location. Business location requirements can be categorized as follows:
